Sneak peek: New flooring for UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital lobby

Construction crews wrapped up a large portion of new flooring installation for UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital lobby late this past week.

The floor is made using Terrazzo, which is a composite material, poured in place or precast. It consists of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other suitable chips, sprinkled or unsprinkled, and poured with a cement binder. Terrazzo is cured then ground and polished to a smooth surface.

Our team was invited to preview the new floor, which features bright colors like “jewel blue” and “Aster purple.” Construction crews will continue to install flooring this summer in other areas of the lobby this summer.
