The Newell Drive repaving project is finished. Access has resumed as normal.

Overview

Starting Wednesday, Dec. 9, a portion of Newell Drive will be repaved from the Archer Road intersection to the UF Baby Gator facility. Work will occur weekdays.

(Newell Drive is the roadway between the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and the East Patient/Visitor Garage on the Archer Road north campus.)

Service Access

  • One vehicle lane in each direction will remain open. A flag person will direct traffic as needed. UF Health Shands Security will be available to coordinate access onsite.
  • Crosswalks will remain available but will be closed for a few minutes periodically to allow a paving machine to pass. Security will be onsite to direct foot traffic.
  • Access to the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and Pediatric E.R. will not be affected during the repaving.
  • The East Patient/Visitor Garage on Newell Drive will remain open at all times and is free for patients. Valet parking is free for Pediatric E.R. patients.

Background

This project is part of the UF Campus Greenway Trail project by the Florida Department of Transportation. The trail will be bicycle and pedestrian-friendly, winding from Gale Lemerand Drive along the creek that runs north of the UF Clinical and Translational Research Building, the HPNP Complex and the new George T. Harrell, M.D., Medical Education Building.
